Biographical notes:
Conrad A. and Mary Ellen Roberge moved from Tingwick, Quebec to Biddeford, Me., in 1947 where they bought a house and raised nine children. Mary Ellen was a noted seamstress and doll-maker. Her daughters, Celeste and Estelle, became prominent artists.

Writer, critic, historian, and research librarian at Maine Historical Society. "A City Awakes: The Arts and Artisans of Early 19th Century Portland", was an exhibit held at the Maine Historical Society from June 24 to Dec. 31, 2005. The exhibit featured paintings, prints, drawings, and examples of decorative arts created in Portland during the 19th century. The artwork captured 19th century Portland and revealed that the city had grown into a major commercial center. Artistic and cultural traditions were also established in Portland during the same period as well.

Author and historian; involved with the Pineland Center which was established in 1908 as Pineland Hospital and Training Center, a state institution for the mentally handicapped in New Gloucester, Me., later was renamed Pineland Center, involved in the car of developmentally disabled. In 1996 Pineland Center closed its doors and was reborn in 2001 as a multipurpose business center, farm, and recreational area, known as Pineland Farms, Inc., which was developed by the Libra Foundation. Barry and his wife spent a year as teacher aides at Pineland Center and he wrote a research paper at the University of Vermont assessing and criticizing the concept of institutionalization. In subsequent years, Barry was involved with the assessment and disposition of the Pineland records during the closure of the institution and also involved in its reinvention.
