Biographical notes:

Neurosurgeon and medical educator Ernest Sachs (1879-1958) received his medical degree from Johns Hospkins University School of Medicine in 1904. He served his internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital (1904-1907) and was clinical clerk at the National Hospital in London (1908). He joined the faculty and administration of Washington University School of Medicine in 1911, serving as: associate professor of surgery (1911-1919), professor of clinical neurological surgery (1919-1946), and professor emeritus. After his retirement, he was lecturer in surgery and medical history at the Yale University School of Medicine. He was president of the Society of Neurological Surgeons (1925-1927) and the American Neurological Association (1942). Dr. Sachs's research interest was in neuroanatomy and the anatomy and physiology of the optic thalamus. Sources: Amer. Men & Women Sci, 9th ed. The Biological Sciences, 1955
