Alice Caldwell Hegan Rice, a native of Louisville and the wife of Kentucky poet Cale Young Rice, received a degree from the University of Louisville. The author of numerous books, she penned three in collaboration with her husband. Rice is best known for her novel MRS. WIGGS AND THE CABBAGE PATCH, which depicts life in Louisville's lower class Cabbage District.
