The Tennessee General Assembly is a bicameral body consisting of the 99 member House of Representatives and the 33 member Senate. House members are elected on a two-year cycle, Senate members on a four-year cycle. The General Assembly enacts laws, provides a forum for debate, and secures financing for the operation of state government.
