Biographical notes:
South Carolina family. Samuel Gaillard Stoney (1853-1926), a Charleston, S.C. businessman and plantation owner, married Louisa Cheves Smythe (1868-1939) in 1890. Their children included Samuel Gaillard Stoney (b. 1891) and Augustine Thomas Smythe Stoney (b. 1894). Louisa Cheves Smythe Stoney was the daughter of Louisa Rebecca McCord (1845-1928) and Augustine Thomas Smythe (1842-1914), a Charleston, S.C. attorney and South Carolina state senator. Augustine Thomas Smythe (who added an "e" to the Smyth family name) married Louisa Rebecca McCord (1845-1928); he was the son of the Reverend Thomas Smyth (1808-1873) and Margaret Milligan Adger (1807-1884), daughter of merchant James Adger (1777-1858). Rev. Smyth's other children included James Adger Smyth (1837-1920).
