The 14th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered in for three years' service on December 31, 1861, and was mustered out on January 13, 1865. It lost 86 killed or died of wounds and 332 died from disease. It served in Louisiana between May 1862 and July 1864, including participating in the Battle of Baton Rouge (August 1862), the Siege of Port Hudson (May-July 1863), the Sabine Pass Campaign (September 1863), and the Western Louisiana "Teche" Campaign (October-November 1863). The Regiment was moved to Virginia in July 1864, where it participated in Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley Campaign from August 7 to November 28, 1864. It also served in West Virginia, Maryland, and Georgia.
