Biographical notes:
Gustavus Schmidt was a New Orleans attorney. His sons, Charles E. Schmidt and Albert J. Schmidt, both enlisted as Confederate soldiers.
Charles Schmidt enlisted in the Crescent Regiment, Louisiana Infantry.
Albert Schmidt served as a private in the Ascension Cannoniers, Louisiana Artillery.
