Schmidt family.
Gustavus Schmidt (1795-1877) was a New Orleans lawyer and author of several works on civil law, and a lecturer at the University of Louisiana, an earlier name of Tulane University. As a young man, he emigrated from Sweden, settled in New Orleans, and married Melanie Seghers. His son, Charles Edouard Schmidt (1832-1891), also a lawyer, married Leda Hincks. Their daughter Marie Louise Schmidt (1876-1961) married Hugues de la Vergne.
