Biographical notes:

Clifford Dyment was born in Derbyshire, England and attended school in Lougborough. He came to London in his twenties having published his first book of poems, First day (1935) and pursued a professional writing career. He worked as a free-lance literary journalist and critic (1934-40); a script writer/director for documentary and military training films (1941-48); and a free-lance writer and broadcaster. Dyment has published several books of poetry including; The axe in the wood (1944) and Collected poems (1970). He has also written an autobiography, The railway game (1962). Dyment has been the recipient of many awards including the Rockefeller Foundation Atlantic Award (1950) and an Arts Council Grant (1967).
