Professor and director of nursing at the University of Iowa. Myrtle Kitchell graduated with a B.A. in nursing education from the University of Minnesota in 1939. During World War II she served with the Army Nurse Corps in North Africa and Italy. After the war she received a masters degree in education from the University of Minnesota in 1948 while also serving as an instructor of nursing. In 1955 she received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration and.

Aydelotte held the following positions: Director and Dean of the College of Nursing at the State University of Iowa (now the University of Iowa) (1949-1957); professor at the College of Nursing (1957-1962 and 1964-1976); associate chief nurse and chief of nursing research at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa (1963-1964); and Director of Nursing for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (1968-1976). She also held positions in numerous.
professional societies, especially the American Nurses Association and the Center for Nursing Innovations as well as visiting professorships at the University of Illinois and Yale University. A prolific researcher and author, Aydelotte is considered a national authority on societal change and its effect on health care delivery.
