Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) was founded in 1922 by six women students of Indiana University Training school for Nurses as a non-profit organization to promote the importance of world health and further academics and research, service, and leadership in nursing. Sigma has supported nurses through funding for research, education and research conferences, continuing education, and grants and awards.
