Biographical notes:

William Louis Valentine Doubourg was born February 14, 1766, the son of Chevalier Pierre DuBourg de la Loubere et St. Christaut, Sieur de Rochemont, and Marguerite (Armand de Vogluzan) DuBourg. He was educated at the College de Guyenne in Paris, and later attended the Seminary of St. Sulpice in Paris. He was ordained in 1788. He was forced to flee France due to the Revolution, and went to Oresene, Spain (1792) before heading to America in 1794. He was received in to the Society of St. Sulpice in Baltimore on March 9, 1795. He was then appointed President of Georgetown University on September 20, 1796. In 1798 he left for Cuba to establish the Sulpician College at Havana. He was appointed administrator of the diocese of Louisiana and the Floridas by Archbishop John Carroll, of Baltimore. He was elected to the See of Louisiana and the Floridas on September 18, 1815. He was then consecrated on September 24, 1815 in Rome. Promoted to the metropolitan See of Besancon on February 15, 1833. He received the Sacred Pallium on November 1, 1833. He later died on December 12, 1833 in Besancon, France.
