Biographical notes:
John MacLeod (1771?-1855), a Scottish merchant, emigrated to Alexandria, Va., and for many years held the post of chief clerk in the U.S. Post Office Dept. there. His son Donald (1809-1869), born in Virginia but educated in Scotland, was a Whig Party newspaperman in Tennessee and later worked for the U.S. Treasury Dept.
