Stephen Post was born in 1810 in New York. In 1835 he joined the LDS Church and moved to Kirtland where he became a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. He was very active in missionary work, but after the death of Joseph Smith, aligned himself with the Strangites and then with Sidney Rigdon until his death in 1879.
