Biographical notes:

After World War I, Samuel D. Jackson coached football at his alma mater, Emory & Henry College, before becoming an insurance agent in Bristol, Tenn. In 1927, Jackson married Sarah Hunter of Johnson City, Tenn.; that year he began working for R.C. Hunter Insurance Company in Johnson City. Jackson officiated at football games for the Southern Conference and Southeastern Conference. During the 1930s, he became a Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) representative to the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations. He also was active in the National Alliance Athletic Association.
