William Franklin Jackson was born in 1850 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and studied art with Virgil Williams, and Benoni Irwin. He was best known for his landscape paintings of California. He was an instructor at the San Francisco School of Design, 1886-1900, and Director of the E.B. Crocker Gallery, 1885-1936.
