Dwight P. Griswold was born November 27, 1893 in Harrison, Nebraska. In 1914 he received his A.B. from the University of Nebraska. From 1922 to 1940 he was the editor and publisher of The Gordon Journal. From 1921 to 1923 he was a member of the Nebraska House of Representatives, and then a member of the Nebraska Senate from 1925 to 1929. In 1932, 1934, and 1936 he was an unsuccessful candidate for governor of Nebraska. From 1941 to 1947 he served as governor of Nebraska. During that time (1946-1947) he was the Director of the Internal Affairs and Communications Division of the United States Office of Military Government for Germany. From June 14, 1947 to September 15, 1948 he served as Chief of the American Mission for Aid to Greece (AMAG). From 1953 to 1954 Griswold was U.S. Senator from Nebraska. He died in Bethesda, Maryland, on April 12, 1954.
