English Bible revision companies and committees

Biographical notes:

In 1870 the Convocation of Canterbury appointed a body of scholars from all denominations to produce a revised version of the Authorised Bible in English that reflected new knowledge of the original Greek text. The work was split between two committees, which became Old and the New Testament Companies. Two similar committees were formed in America and worked with their English counterparts. The Revised New Testament was published in 1881, the Revised Old Testament in 1884, and The Revised Bible in 1885. The two companies began work on revising the Apocrypha after they had completed their main work, and this was also published in 1895.
