William Alexander was an associate or partner in maritime ventures with Samuel Prioleau, Jr. and Shaw & Hammitt of Philadelphia.

Colonel William Alexander graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1915. He transferred to the Army after graduation. Alexander served in World War I (WWI) and in the South Pacific during World War II (WWII). He retired in 1952.
