Biographical notes:

Charles A. (Charles Albro) Barker, scholar (1904-1993), was a pacifist and historian at Johns Hopkins University, 1945-1972. The author of several books, he is best known for Henry George (1955) his biography of Henry George (1839-1897), politician and political economist, who was the most influential proponent of the land value tax, also known as the "single tax" on land, and, who, during 1886 campaigned for mayor of New York City as the candidate of the United Labor Party, the short-lived political society of the Central Labor Union.
