Biographical notes:
John Claflin, leading dry goods merchant in the U.S. in the early Twentieth Century and president of the Chamber of Commerce of the State of New York.
Ray Baker, born in Michigan, worked for McClure's Magazine and helped form the American Magazine. Practiced investigative journalism known as "muckraking."
