Biographical notes:

Esther Pauline Lederer (b. 1918; nee Friedman; nicknamed Eppie) became the advice columnist Ann Landers in 1954 for the Chicago Sun-Times. Her column's topics included sexuality, marital roles and family relationships, divorce, drugs and alcoholism, and ethical issues. It eventually was syndicated in over 1100 newspapers. In 1987, she left the Sun-Times, taking the column with her to the Chicago Tribune, where she remained its primary author until 2000.
