Biographical notes:

Bolton Farm, located in Bristol Township, Bucks County, Pa., was the property of James Pemberton Morris (1791-1834) and his father Anthony Morris (1766-1860). Anthony Morris established an agricultural school at the farm, ca. 1830-1831, modeled on the one at Hofwyl, near Bern, Switzerland, founded by Philip Emanuel von Fellenberg (1771-1844), the Swiss educator. F. A. Ismar, a pupil of Fellenberg, was superintendent at Bolton Farm, but the school was not a success and was soon abandoned.
