Norton & Co., manufacturer of stoneware and related products, Worcester, Mass., began making emery wheels ca. 1873; sold to group of investors and reorganized as Norton Emery Wheel Company in 1885; later renamed Norton Company; the world's largest manufacturer of abrasives and abrasives machinery; in 1987 had plants in 27 countries.
