Savannah and Charleston Railroad.
Biographical notes:
The Savannah and Charleston Railroad Company of Charleston, South Carolina was organized in 1867 from the Charleston and Savannah Railroad Company (also of Charleston) which had begun operations in 1861. The main line of the company ran between Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia with service to other locations south and west of Charleston. In January of 1867 under pressure from bondholders the Board of Directors of the Charleston and Savannah Railroad Company agreed to transfer the company's property rights and privileges to the Savannah and Charleston Railroad Company.
