Kenneth Grahame worked for the Bank of England and wrote articles and stories for journals, mostly about children. Collections of stories appeared in The golden age, published in 1895, and in Dream days, published in 1898. His best known work was The wind in the willows, published in 1908. Grahame became a recluse after the suicide of his son, Alastair, in 1920.
