Kylie Tennant was a novelist and short-story writer who had also published works on Australian history. She had been a member of the Commonwealth Literary Fund Advisory Board since 1961. Her novels had brought her the S.H. Prior Memorial Prize and the Australian Literature Society's Gold Medal.
