American Evangelical pastor, scholar and churchman; born July 6, 1905; pastor of Park Street Church 1936-1969; first president of the National Association of Evangelcials, 1942-1944; president of Fuller Theological Seminary, 1947-1954, 1959-1963; president of Gordon College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, 1969-1979; leader in many other Evangelcial protestant organziations; died 1985.
