Biographical notes:

The Tucson diocese holds historic sacramental registers from southern Arizona and southern New Mexico. In the eighteenth century, these areas were under the religious jurisdiction of the Mexican dioceses of Durango, created in 1620, and Sonora, created in 1799. After the Mexican War of 1848, the Vicariate Apostolic of New Mexico was established in 1850; the Vicariate Apostolic of Arizona in 1868, and the Diocese of Tucson in 1897.
