Biographical notes:

Charles L. Schultze was born on December 12, 1924 in Alexandria, Virginia. He served as the director of the U.S. Bureau of the Budget under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, and he was appointed a senior fellow of the Brookings Institution in 1968. He was chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the president from 1977 to 1981, and in 1980 Schultze was appointed chairman of the Council on Wage and Price Stability. He taught at Indiana University-Bloomington and the University of Maryland at College Park. He also wrote several books, including National Income Analysis (1964), The Politics and Economics of Public Spending (1968), Pollution, Prices, and Public Policy (1975), and The Public Use of Private Interest (1977).
