James Blythe Anderson was educated at Kentucky State College and the University of Virginia. He lived at "Glengarry," his ancestral home in Fayette County, three miles north of Lexington on Newtown Pike, from 1881 until his death in 1945. He raised shorthorn cattle here. He became interested in genealogy and accumulated a great deal of data on a number of different families.
