The College of Fine Arts and Communications was founded in 1963 the following a reorganization of the College of Fine Arts. James A. Mason served as dean of the college until 1994, when he was succeeded by Bruce L. Christensen. Christensen was succeeded by Newell Dayley who was appointed dean in 2000 and served until 2003. Stephen Jones became the dean of the College in 2003. Currently, the college consists of the departments of Communications, Theatre and Media Arts, and Visual Arts. The college also has responsibility for BYU Broadcasting, the Museum of Art, Newsnet, and the School of Music.
