Judge, Royal Commissioner. Justice of the New South Wales Supreme Court 1972-92; Chairman of the New South Wales Law Reform Commission 1990-93; Chairman of the N.S.W. Heritage Council 1978-93; and Chancellor of the University of Wollongong 1975-1997 . During his career Hope conducted the following inquiries: the Committee of Inquiry into the National Estate (1973-75); the Royal Commission on Intelligence and Security (1975-78); the Protective Security Review (1979); and the Royal Commission on Australia's Security and Intelligence Agencies (1983-85).
