Mireles, E. E. (Edmundo Eduardo), 1905-1987

Mexican-American pioneers of bilingual education in Texas, E.E. and Jovita González Mireles, were advocates for the teaching of Spanish language in primary schools from 1939 until their deaths in the 1980s. E.E. Mireles served as an educational administrator and policy maker, and helped to found the Pan American Council, dedicated to the study of Spanish, Latin America and its people. Jovita González Mireles taught in the public school system and wrote the novels, Caballero and Dew on the Thorn.
