Myers, Clay
Clay Myers, a fifth-generation Oregonian from pioneer stock, was born May 27, 1927, in Portland and grew up in Tillamook. He attended Benson Tech High School (Portland), received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon (Eugene) in 1949 and pursued graduate studies in law at Northwestern College in Portland. Myers was active in politics from a young age. He was instrumental in organizing the Young Republicans of Oregon and was an active member of the Republican Party. He served as assistant Secretary of State from 1965-1967 and as Secretary of State from 1967 to 1977. In 1977 he was elected State Treasurer and served in that post until his resignation in 1984. When not occupied by politics, Myers pursued a career in the banking and investment business. He and his wife, Elizabeth, raised three children.
