Katz, Jonathan, 1938-

Jonathan Ned Katz (1938- ), author, playwright, historian, teacher, gay rights advocate, and textile designer, is a leading authority on homosexuality and gay and lesbian history.

During the 1960s Katz worked in New York City as a free-lance textile designer. His writing career began in the late 1960s with the production of his plays about fugitive slaves and the publication of studies in black history. He became a founding member of the Gay Academic Union; wrote books, articles, reviews, and essays on gay and lesbian issues; and lectured and taught courses on gay and lesbian history.
