Fleischman, Paul
Paul Fleischman was born in Monterey, California on September 5, 1952. He is the son of children's author Sid Fleischman. Mr. Fleischman attended University of California and University of New Mexico, where he received a B.A. Degree in 1977. He won the Newbery Award in 1989 for Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices . His first attempt in 1977 at writing a quality children's book was entitled The Birthday Tree . It was published in 1979 and was successful. He writes about a variety of themes and subjects. He enjoys researching his books and uses a musical approach to language. Many of the settings for his books are in the past, but he has also written contemporary fiction.
