Smyth family.
South Carolina family. Thomas Smyth (1808-1873), pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church of Charleston, S.C., was born in Belfast, Ireland and immigrated to America with his family in 1830. He married Margaret Milligan Adger (1807-1884), daughter of James Adger (1777-1858) and Sarah Elizabeth Ellison (1783-1856). Their children included Sarah Ann Smyth (1846-1929), James Adger Smyth (1837-1920), and Augustine Thomas Smythe (1842-1914), who married Louisa Rebecca McCord (1845-1928). As a young man, Augustine Thomas Smyth added an "e" to his name. His daughter, Louisa Cheves Smythe (1868-1939), married Samuel Gaillard Stoney (1853-1926). Louisa McCord Smythe (1845-1928) served as president of the Charleston (S.C.) Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
