Stevenson, Elizabeth, 1919-1999

Elizabeth Stevenson (1919-1999), American writer and first women to win the Bancroft Prize (1956) for HENRY JAMES: A BIOGRAPHY. She began her Emory career in 1960 as a secretary, a position she held for 14 years before taking a faculty appointment in the Institute of the Liberal Arts, where she taught for 12 years. She is now Candler Professor of American Studies Emeritus.
