Hussey, Roland Dennis, 1897-
Hussey was born on Oct. 13, 1897 in Milford, MA; fought in WWI; SB, Boston Univ., 1923; MA, Harvard Univ., 1928; Ph. D, UCLA, 1930; instructor in history, asst. professor (1930-35), assoc. professor (1935-45), from 1945, professor, UCLA; chairman of history dept. (1950, 1952-54); during WWII until 1947 he was asst. chief of the Office of American Republic Affairs, and divisional chief of the Office of Intelligence in the State Dept.; wrote articles and books on Latin American history, including Spanish reaction to foreign aggression in the Caribbean to about 1680 (1929) and The Caracas Company, 1728-1784 : a study in the history of Spanish monopolistic trade (1934); contributing editor, Handbook of Latin-American studies; editor, Hispanic-American Historical Review; he died on Oct. 28, 1959.
