Daniel Franklin Boone (1904-1989), lawyer and Army colonel, native of Winston-Salem, N.C., graduated 1931 from National University School of Law (L.L.B., L.L.M., M.P.L., J.D.); served in: Army National Guard, 1921-25; Army Reserve, 1925-1940; and was on general staff assignments in Washington, D.C., 1940-47; retired from Army in 1967 to open private law practice.
During World War II Boone served as liason officer for War Department in White House, briefed President Roosevelt on Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, and reviewed Japanese and German war atrocity cases with the War Crimes Branch of the War Department General Staff. In 1932, he married Martha Ferree Lightner (1911-1997), daughter of Clarence Ashley Lightner (1862-1938) and Frances McGraw (1870-1938) of Detroit, Mi., and Tryon, N.C.
