Buley, R. Carlyle (Roscoe Carlyle), 1893-1968
Buley was born in Georgetown, Ind. He attended Indiana University and taught high school history in Delphi and Muncie, Ind. before earning his Ph.D. in 1925. Buley taught history at Indiana University from 1925 until 1964. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1951 for THE OLD NORTHWEST: PIONEER PERIOD, 1815-1840, and the Elizur Wright Award for his history of life insurance.
