New Mexico. Office of Economic Opportunity.
The Division of Economic Opportunity was established within the State Planning Office by an executive order in 1965 (1965 Executive Order No. 7). Prior to 1971 the names Division of Economic Opportunity and Office of Economic Opportunity were used interchangeably. In 1971 an executive order moved the Office of Economic Opportunity to the newly-established Office of Manpower Planning and Grant Administration (1971 Executive Order No. 24). Prior to 1976 the Office of Economic Opportunity became the Division of Human Resources (1976 Executive Order No. 46). The New Mexico Office of Economic Opportunity functioned as an extension of the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity in developing and implementing programs to assist economically depressed areas and alleviate poverty.
