Aslakson, Carl I. (Carl Ingman), 1896-
With S.D. Infantry on Mexican border service (1914-15). Joined U.S. Marine Corps (1917) and became 2nd Lieutenant by end of World War I (1917-19). Appointed to U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1923 and rose to Lt. Commander serving on vessels in the U.S.., Alaska and Philippines (1924-38). Technical advisor to 1st Observation Battalion, U.S. Field Artillery (1939), lead U.S. delegation on gravimetric observation to Peru and Columbia (1940-41). Assigned as Major in Air Force and worked on weather research and mapping (1941-42). Performed work in geodesy on the SHORAN system (1945); promoted to Colonel (1946). Returned to the Geodetic Survey (1947-58); worked as consultant for Aero Service, inc. (1958-69).
