Home Economists in Business
A section of the American Home Economics Association, Home Economists in Business focuses on integrating consumer concerns into the product design and marketing strategies of the manufacturers and distributors of goods and services. Founded in 1923, HEIB had its beginnings in 1920 when a small group of women home economists employed in business set out to elucidate their concerns both within the education-focused AHEA and the male-dominated corporate sphere. Employed by food and textile manufacturers, utility companies, and women's magazines, among others, these home economists facilitated communication between producers and women consumers, primarily homemakers, and thus were instrumental in shaping consumer society in 20th-century America.
