Haydon, John M. (John Morse), 1920-

John M. Haydon was the governor of American Samoa from August, 1969, to autumn, 1974. Haydon's term as governor was dedicated to keeping American Samoa for the Samoans. Influenced by the Foxfire Book, Governor and Mrs. Haydon instituted a program to record and preserve the Samoan culture. They also established a museum and a branch of the Sierra Club.

From the guide to the John M. Haydon Papers, 1968-1982, 1968-1974, (University of Washington Libraries Special Collections)
