Biographical History

John M. Haydon was the governor of American Samoa from August, 1969, to autumn, 1974. Haydon's term as governor was dedicated to keeping American Samoa for the Samoans. Influenced by the Foxfire Book, Governor and Mrs. Haydon instituted a program to record and preserve the Samoan culture. They also established a museum and a branch of the Sierra Club.
