Hill, Edward Lee, 1904-1974

Edward Lee Hill was born on November 3, 1904 in Hartford, Arkansas. He received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1925. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota, receiving his Ph.D. degree in physics in 1928. Dr. Hill was awarded a National Research Council post doctoral fellowship and spent the next two years at Harvard University. In 1930 he returned to the University of Minnesota as an assistant professor of physics and mathematics. Dr. Hill spent his entire career at the University of Minnesota, except during World War II when he worked at the Bureau of Ships of the Navy Department (1941-1945). He retired as professor emeritus in 1970. Dr. Hill was an active contributor to quantum mechanics and his interests were in the abstract aspects of mathematical physics. Edward Hill died on January 7, 1974.
