Born 1907. Graduated from the University of Illinois. Commissioned in the Officers' Reserve Corps, 1930. Entered the Army in 1941. Assigned troop command and staff duties for the 4th Armored Division in Europe, 1941-1945. Instructor, U.S. Army Armor School, 1946. Assigned to the Army General Staff, 1947-1949. Participated in the establishment of NATO, 1949-1952. Re-assigned to Army General Staff, 1953-1955. Assistant Division Commander, 7th Infantry Division Korea, 1956. Assistant Division Commander, 1st Cavalry Division in Japan, 1957. Re-assigned to the Army General Staff and Joint Staff, 1958-1960. Assistant Division Commander, 4th Armored Division, 1961. Chief, Office of Military History from 1962 until retirement in 1970.
