Foster, Richard J.

Richard J. Foster is the author of several spiritual books which have appealed to a wide audience since his 1978 publication of The Celebration of Discipline . Although he is ecumenical in focus, his works often reflect Quaker precepts that are decribed as an attempt to “promote a balanced understanding of the Christian faith.” Foster is the founder of Renovare Spiritual Formation Institute. He has been a frequent speaker in conferences around the world. He is a former pastor of a Quaker congregation that is part of the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Church (NWYM) and, as a graduate of George Fox College, Newberg, Oregon, he has chosen to house his papers at the combined archives of the University and the NWYM.
